Nov. 4, 2001 Ponderosa Park Beginner Meet

We had a real good turnout for our meet Sunday. The weather was a beautiful cool, sunny, fall day, after some recent rain. The park's leaf covered trails made for an enjoyable event for the 21 newcomers (including kids) that showed up to try orienteering. Wayne & Jenny Ruemmele with 4year old Willy and baby whipped through the course in an amazing 32 mins. They were ready for more, and they and Jimbob tried out the 2 intermediate style points I had put out also. Ana Egnew & family saw the Ruemmele time and tried to beat it, but came up 4 mins. behind for second place. All the youngsters tried the Kid's Fun Course after doing the regular beginner course with their parents. They had fun, but it must have been too easy as none of them took more than 10 mins. on it. Everyone was eager for more orienteering and asked about upcoming meets.
