Greeting fellow O'ers,

Perhaps it was the overcast, cool weather, or perhaps we had too much event competition (Hyde Park street fair...Highland Games...Hidden Springs Duathlon...Rim to Rim 12k in Twin Falls...Boise River Cleanup?) for National Orienteering Day which led to a light turnout...but those that showed had plenty of enthuasiasm to turn up the heat.

Half the comers took on intermediate. With Sergey's shadowing, Masha tackled the terrible prospect of crossing the bridge, but survived nicely enough to take first place and a little LED lantern for Night O practice. Andy and Elijah couldn't pass up a challenge like that and soon followed, taking second place as the carbo loading Cheeto's called from somewhere in the BSU woods. Kathryn, apparently experienced at such events in Alaska before she moved here, tried her hand on it, but confessed that she couldn't resist the temptation to do the lake controls (9 to 10) out of order despite the course setter's careful planning. Elijah may not forgive her this time around, but there's always next meet...

The advanced course, with no less than four bridge crossings, drew the remaining regulars of the club. Bill Leahy had good clean execution, with more foresight route planning and no problem controls, garnering a cool piece of topo software that covered the high points in all 50 states. Good practice to leverage in a park meet...hopefully the topo lines won't haunt him yet in the future. Lee Scott squeaked in just behind, but it may be too close to call as he narrowly saved a control from the trash bag as a Boise River cleanup volunteer picked it up. Karin, eager for a bit of distance for larger A meets, had a clean run in third place. Dondi stepped up to the advanced course with a push from the meet director and was only hindered by various passers by wanting to know about Sage the orienteering greyhound...
