August meet brought us to the wonderful woods near picturesque Idaho City. This is, undoubtedly, is the most physically and technically challenging terrain that we mapped so far. With complete fieldcheck this map is promising to be worthy of an A meet and a championship event. Blended with mild sunny weather it was the right mix for the enjoyable exploration. Scores of people from Boise and as far as Pocatello gathered at the meet center to try courses set in the woods.

Beginner course with 7 controls was set along the road and trails that we shared with moto-bikers. Twisted trails with ups and downs didn't hold back Donna Goodwin and Emma Gregory who finished the course second in 27:25. Masha with dog Malchik were first and Dondi with dog Sage were third. Sammy showed very good time for a solo run. Big Kramer family found all controls and had time for more enjoyment in the woods. Constanze with Kayla and Bellena strolled along the course enjoying scenery.

Intermediate and Advanced courses shared first and last 8 controls. Lee Scott finished intermediate course with best 50:54 time. Jim Kramer who came with the whole family from Pocatello finished second. Jeff Decker and Dan Herring were very close. David Byrd showed 5th time. Donna after her Beginner course finish braved intricacies of the intermediate course and found six controls. Masha with her dad learned such advanced techniques as contouring and precise bearing while finding first 5 controls.

On a true test of the navigational and physical limits 8 people selected to explore our Advanced course. Mountain type of terrain required perfection of bearing and contouring techniques coupled with careful and precise interpretation of the map. To the big surprise Ole outran Kristin and almost outrun Jeff to finish with the second best time of the day. Both Jeff and Kristin had difficulties locating some controls but smiled in the end which is a good sign. Bill Leahy, Karin, and David showed very close times. Bill Pilcher with dog Rosie finished 7th and, finally, Brad found all controls on the very difficult course in a little bit more than 3 hours.

Next year we will be back in these woods with more accurate and precise map!
