Continuing a CTOC summer tradition (who the heck wants to be in the valley when the mountains are so nice?), turnout was less than crowded. However, the weather was perfect, and the music (from some shin-dig over at the bandshell) wasn't half bad, either.

Both the beginner and intermediate-level courses were standard format (although the controls on the intermediate course were somewhat more technical). Newcomer Tom Frahs ambled through the beginner's course, yawned, and proceeded to amble even faster through the intermediate course, giving "veteran" Arun Lokanathan a run for his money.

The advanced course was laid out the same as the intermediate course, but was in "attack point" format -- only small "windows" of map were printed near (50m, more-or-less) the actual control location. The circled control location (and the majority of the map) was blank. This little variation made it necessary to slow down and read the map much more carefully, as can be seen from the times. While, Frank didn't *quite* beat Jeff, the margin was a *lot* closer than on the typical Julia Davis "runner's course".

All in all, a nice day to be hanging out in the trees.
