We had a good turnout for the first McCall orienteering meet. The day was hot and sunny, but still about 10 degrees cooler than Boise. Some local Boy Scouts tried the beginner course, and in addition to the Boise advanced runners, John Beck came down from Spokane to help baptise our new map.

Sergey blazed through the advanced course in an amazing 46 mins. Second place was hotly contested with only 7mins. separating the next 3 competitors. Jeff Marquez claimed the 2nd place honors in 1:54. All the advanced competitors had a challenge finding the controls with the large contour interval and real forest. However, they all succeeded within the 3 hour time limit and got a good workout to boot.

The intermediate course had few takers despite my urging. Bob found having the dog along less of a handicap than Andy had carrying Elijah on his shoulders.

A pair of young McCall-ites showed great o-ring promise with the excellent time of 42 mins. on the somewhat difficult novice course that involved 3 stream crossings.

The new area was enjoyed by all with much interest in future meets up here in the mountains, hopefully with more contours on the map.
