While the turnout was a bit smaller this time around, the sunny weather and shaded start at Veteran's Park were happily savored by the participants. The Score format was used (points for each control, with a point penalty of 5 pts/minute for running over 45 minutes), although to keep things challenging for the more technically inclined, maps were available *without* trails. Both Andy and Frank found this to be much more interesting than they expected, although minimal swimming proved necessary. Second-time comer Arun went straight for the 20 pointers and made it back in the allotted 45 minutes. The one control nobody found was placed in a favorite location at the end of a peninsula in the river, mainly because the beavers have been quite busy trying to make things more challenging for those of the orienteering mindset...

Results:

15 controls:
  7 at 10 points
  4 at 15 points
  4 at 20 points (a normal 15 pointer became a 20 with the fallen trees)
->210 total possible

Standard course:
  Arun Lokanathan                    9 controls    44:55   120 points

"Advanced" course (map sans trails)
  Andy and Elijah Hill 13 controls 46:25 160 points (2 min. penalty)
  Frank "Gotta get 'em all" Kruesi 14 controls 72:00 55 points (27 min. penalty)

The next meet is at Julia Davis on August 19th. Andy will probably return to the planner's table to see what obstacles he can toss up in our way...see you then!
