Hot, hot, hot, hot... Only this probably had been coming to the heads of the die-hards who risked trying advanced course at our June meet this last Saturday at Stewart Gulch, Boise. Unforgiving sun brought day temperatures to 95 degrees in the shade and much higher at the steep hills overlooking the city. They were very thankful for the plenty of water and natural showers at the finish.

Beginner’s course at 1.7K, 9 controls was set on the plain part of the map surrounding the Hillside junior-high school. Alexander family in two pairs, Cary and Chad Huston (earning for his scout badge), and Masha successfully finished the course. Unfortunately nobody reported seeing the rabbit at one of the controls that was spotted by the course setter (although a fox was seen at one of the advanced controls - living proof of wild life existence at Boise foothills). Alexanders voted to try more advanced Intermediate course set at approximately same length but crossing killing open foothills. That was very different experience for them. Congratulations on trying it! Karin came from McCall and finished the Intermediate course with the best time. She had only one remark at the finish line "Hot!".

Our grownup die-hards went for the long torturing foothill exploration. They should be mentioned specially! Here they are: Brooks Aberg, August Hess, Dan Herring, David Bergset , Ole Bergset, and Jeff Black. Brooks and August went on the course in spite of the course setter warnings and almost made it to the end! Real competition fired among our experienced runners. Unfortunately Jeff missed one of the tricky controls although finishing with very good time. David ran faster than his dad by a little bit more than one minute. Dan finished the course at respectful time. Well, I think that was quite experience for the fans. Good spirit!
