[Arun and Apoorva Lokanathan find the last control before finishing]

Ann Morrison & Julia Davis / BSU Saturday, March 24, 2007

A beautiful spring day in Boise Idaho greeted all competitors to the March CTOC meet. An added bonus to all was the lack of soccer matches on the playing fields thus providing an open route course for all participants. By sign-in count we had a total of 27 people attending the event, plus a photographer from the Idaho Statesman.

The Beginner course was completely in the Ann Morrison Park. Competition was tough in the beginner course with all finishing within 3. 5 minutes of each other. The tandem of Brad and Ayden took the hard fought victory while holding off Lauren and Samantha Scott, with the Hall family closely following in third place. It was great seeing several young competitors out on the course.

The intermediate course took competitors through Ann Morrison Park and Julia Davis / BSU. David Bergset ran away from the field on the intermediate course, by finishing under 44 minutes. Second place was more tightly contested with the Lokanathan family finishing ahead of Dondi Black and her trusty four-legged partner Sage. Rebecaa Dekugrel & Kat Parker came in fourth appearing to have enjoyed the day in the parks. The Busacker family completed the Ann Morrison part of the course before calling a day.

The advanced course, where should I start? One individual had a hard time finding the start (next time I will underline and print in BOLD the location); another who thought the weather was hot and decided to wade across the river instead of using the bridges; and one guy who seems to always attract the Idaho Statesman photographers. Competitors were treated to two separate loops through Ann Morrison and Julia Davis / BSU. The biggest surprise to this meet director was that Lee Scoot took top honors by beating out perennial winner Sergey. Was Sergey tired from his warm-up lap around Ann Morrison? In a very respectable third place was Doug LaMott. Battling for fourth and fifth places were Mike Bading and Bill Leahy (Bill- how many times before you got the “perfect” photo?), with Mike coming out ahead. Karin Didisse pulled out her bag of tricks in an attempt to beat out Ole Bergset, but Ole won out despite Karin’s mad dash across the river. We should all give Karin a round of applause for her gutsy move!

Being in the director’s seat for the first time really opened my eyes to the effort required to put on a meet. It raised my level of appreciation for all those whose meets I have attended in the past. I have several people that I must thank. First off the meet would not have been successful without the tremendous assistance of my co-director --- Jeff Black. Andy Hill was gracious in printing the maps and assisting with coordinating the two maps, and then Mike from the Athletes Foot, for getting the announcement in the Saturday’s edition of the Idaho Statesman. Finally, Mike Bading’s GPS gave us an accurate distance measurement for the transition between the two maps.

Thanks to all who participated!

Dan Herring
