First is just started to snow when all controls were set at the Veterans park, Boise for our
third meet this year; second it really snowed, and then we REALLY saw what kind of snow can be pouring from
the skies in the middle of the March here in Boise. However, that didn't discourage the brave ones
who decided to spend this prime time alone with nature instead spending it at the fire place drinking
hot tea or other drink of choice.
The beginner courses was Score-O with 18 controls with 1 point awarded for ones close to the meet
center, 2 points for 4 in the middle of the park, and 3 points for 4 others strategically placed
around the lake. We had quite a number of newcomers who tried their first orienteering course very
successfully finding all (or almost all) controls. I hope everybody enjoyed the course and got the
fever of finding precious controls. Brooks Aberg managed to find them all
without any penalty. Perfect score! Steve Carew found all controls as well but unfortunately was a little
bit above the limit time. Big Moats family scouted and found all the nearest controls and even braved their
way to one of the advanced. Good start! Anderson family found all 1 point controls plus 4 advanced ones and
finished within the limit time. Steve Cox found all controls on his map but unfortunately missed one
while copying from the master map. Otherwise, he would certainly collect all 18. Of course, Elijah and
Masha had to pull respectfully Andy and Brian through the course. That allowed Brian even to finish and
find the rest of the controls after Masha went home. Boy Scout Masters Dan and Cary tried easy
controls and thought that it would be
certainly big fun for their scouts. We hope to see them and their troops at our May and other meets.
Desiree found all 1 and 2 points controls. Finally Karin braved her way from McCall to visit us and taste
park orienteering ala Boise style.
The Advanced course was 2 loops one man relay format with loop #1 being 2.3K, 9 controls, loop #2
- 2.7K, 9 controls. A number of our advanced runners tried this format with Jeff Black leading the
pack (well, memorizing course certainly helps to increase the speed). Dan, John, Chris, and, of course,
Joell all did very well during the run untangling the intricacies of the park orienteering among the canals.
Unfortunately we are not in Holland or I would design something more challenging for them. Look at their
times. They definitely need full Red (or even Blue) type of courses! Andy, please, take this under
consideration for our next meet.
Finally here are scores and times. I beg your pardon if I misspelled your name. Just let me know and I will
correct.
