Hello fellow orienteers- here is the results from this weekend's Ski Orienteering meet. We enjoyed beautiful weather and fast snow, however because of recent heavy winds there was a fair amount of debris on the trails. Masha went for the gusto on Intermediate and looked to be the winner, until late starter Bob surprised everyone with an energetic time. Just put some skis (downhill or crosscountry) on that boy and he's quick!

I thought the courses would be fastest with snowshoes because of the debris and ability to cut corners. It looked like my theory was right with Jeff edging out Lee, until Sergey turned in an amazing time after a late start from shadowing Masha. Now that Masha is going on the longer intermediate course rather than the beginner, Sergey is getting a lot more of a workout shadowing her and was really wiped out after doing the two courses. Doug M. happened by as we were packing up and got talked into helping with the control pick up. The church group didn't make it so (thankfully?) we had no takers on the somewhat challenging beginner course.

A couple of couples came up and made a romantic weekend of their trip to McCall and checked out the new Little Bear Basin nordic ski area Saturday. The excellent snow, grooming, and expansive rolling terrain got the thumbs up from those who tried it and will likely be the location for our winter meet next year.
